Events
TreePeople Presents events are where arts and activism converge in Southern California – creating a new space to explore the connections between creativity and the environment.
TreePeople Presents is focused on curating experiences that you can’t find anywhere else in Los Angeles’ crowded yet homogenous entertainment landscape. We’re focused on giving artistic communities a space where their voice can be heard to the fullest–diving into what makes them unique and exciting. Be it film screening events that allow us to nerd out on the eccentricities of our favorite creators, concerts where musicians can merge art and activism, or community conversations that explore the natural world around us, events that engage have a home at TreePeople’s S. Mark Taper Foundation Amphitheatre.
We update our calendar frequently; check back for new experiences and sign up for our newsletter to get the most up-to-date information. If you’re looking for volunteer opportunities, please visit treepeople.org/volunteer.

Since then, she’s opened for Sheryl Crow, Melissa Etheridge, Elle King, and more, bringing her distinctive take on Americana to a widening fanbase.

TreePeople Presents
Nailah Hunter
The LA-based multi-instrumentalist and composer Nailah Hunter has been recording mystical folk and ambient-inspired music since 2019, releasing a series of singles and two EPs: Spells and, most recently, Quietude. Now signed to Fat Possum, Lovegaze is Hunter’s debut full-length, an enthralling album that draws listeners into her enchanting cosmology.
As the daughter of a Belizean pastor, Hunter began her musical journey in the church where she played drums, guitar and sang in the choir. She continued on to study music at CalArts, where she studied vocal performance and was given her first harp lesson. Associating the instrument with fantasy, psychedelia, and dream worlds, Hunter became an immediate devotee, locking herself in a room for six hours a day to practice the instrument.
To make Lovegaze, Hunter decamped to a small coastal city along the English Channel where she began recording demos with a borrowed celtic harp. After being introduced to London-based producer Cicely Goulder, Hunter returned to England a year later to further develop the songs. The resulting collection, Lovegaze, is a bewitching testament to the resiliency of the natural world.

Please note Franklin Canyon Park closes at sundown. Our Parking Grove is located at Coldwater Canyon Avenue and Mulholland Drive, just a few minutes above Studio City. Look for the green TreePeople sign at the entrance, opposite the stoplight, on the east side of that intersection.
TreePeople is not responsible for personal belongings left in vehicles; please do not leave important items out in full view of your vehicle.
Venue Access
Comfortable, flat-soled shoes are recommended. If you need vehicle access, please let us know in advance and plan to arrive no later than 30 minutes before the performance to avoid any delay in getting to your seats.
Principal access to the amphitheatre is via hillside stairways and mulched trails.
Please check your email to know where the event is taking place and view our map below for orientation.
Seating
Your reservations guarantee you seating in either our main bleachers, directly opposite the stage, or in folding chairs around the stage and on the trail overlooking the venue. The specific location of your seats is based on a first-come, first-served basis. The venue typically opens one hour before show time.
Admission & Payment
All tickets are nonrefundable, so don’t forget to mark your calendars!
Reservations made by credit card are available online or at the door. Depending on the event, tickets may be available at the box office. Admission prices vary depending on the show. Please check individual event listings for more information. We do not accept cash payments.
Cushions, Blankets, & Warm Clothing
We provide simple foam pads for your comfort to place on the bleachers. You're welcome to bring your own. As evening comes, it usually cools down so you might want to have a sweater, light jacket, or lap blanket to keep warm. Blankets are occasionally on sale on-site.
Picnicking
There are a number of sites throughout our 45-acre park that are great for picnicking at any hour, some with wonderful views of the San Fernando Valley. You may picnic in the amphitheatre itself. The venue typically opens one hour before the show for early picnickers. Please avoid excess packaging and use the recycling and trash bins located near the box office and throughout the park.
Restrooms
Bathrooms are located on the same level as the main parking lot between the nursery and the conference center, two levels up from the amphitheatre.
ADA Accommodations
Coldwater Canyon Park was built nearly 100 years ago, and persons with ADA requirements will most likely need special accommodations to access our amphitheatre events. Please reach out to events@treepeople.org with any questions or requests, and we will try to accommodate your needs.
History
The S. Mark Taper Foundation Amphitheatre was built in 1997 with the support of many generous donors including Steve Martin, Bonnie Raitt, Ron Howard, and Johnny Carson. The Actors Conservatory Ensemble (ACE), a volunteer theater company run by TreePeople Director of Park Operations Jim Hardie, co-presented many concerts, play readings, comedy nights and family shows in the venue 1998-2023 under the banner of “Once Upon a Canyon Night.” TreePeople thanks ACE for their decades of dedication to the space and organization–bringing thousands of people together to enjoy programming and the park.
The amphitheatre underwent a renovation funded by the S. Mark Taper Foundation from 2020-2022 in order to upgrade the space with permanent state of the art lighting, sound, and improved seating. TreePeople reopened the amphitheatre with a benefit concert to commemorate the organization’s 50th anniversary with performances by Beck, Van Dyke Parks, Courtney Barnett, and more.
